News from the Director/Curator 1/18/07
Two Spirits Gallery is pleased to announce that it will expand its scope and purpose, becoming the Two Spirits Gallery and Creative Arts Center over the next few months. As a recipient of funding from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust and the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services -Administration for Native Americans we will be able to fulfill our vision of creating new opportunities for artists to come together to create, mentor, and enhance their professional skills and those of other artists.

The Creative Arts Center will provide studio space for a variety of traditional and non-traditional art forms plus classes and instruction from Master Artists from the Alaska Native community. This expansion will take place over the next few months at our current location the Ship Creek Center, located at 333 W. 4th Avenue.

Thanks to our funders, Two Spirits will also expand its marketing efforts which will include: web-site upgrades, e-commerce, limited edition prints, and links to other galleries and venues to promote our artists and their work. If have not yet viewed the Two Spirits video on this web site, please do, as it just received a National Award click on "about us" to review.

Your support is highly valued. Please come visit us during our Monday to Saturday business hours or our monthly First Friday openings of new exhibitions.

Respectfully, Kay Klose

We are pleased to announce that our "Two Spirits Gallery" video received a CINE Golden Eagle Award.  The CINE Golden Eagle awards, distinguishing excellence in professional and amateur works, are recognized internationally as symbols of the highest production standards in filmmaking and videography.  Through profiles of selected Alaska Native and Anchorage artists, Two Spirits Gallery shows how art can be a pathway to recovery from mental illness, homelessness, and substance abuse. The video also introduces managers behind the scenes, and shows how access to supplies, mentors, a workspace, and a gallery, can build self-confidence and a career. WGBH Executive Producer Amy Tonkonogy, WGBH Producer/Director Philip Gay, WGBH Editor Maureen Keleher, and Talking Circle Media Alaskan Camera DP Jonathan Butzke! Information Video >
