Two Spirits Gallery - Who We Are

Two Spirits Gallery is dedicated to artists who’s lives have been affected by mental illness, substance abuse, or homelessness. Located in downtown Anchorage the Gallery opened in May of 2005 as part of the continuum of care offered through the Recovery Services unit at Cook Inlet Tribal Council, Inc. Two spirits works with a diverse group of artists from  across the state, some whose talents may already be known to the public and others whose talents have yet to be discovered.

The Gallery provides artists with a variety of services from marketing their artwork to helping them meet basic life needs.

Artists with a body of work are offered the opportunity for a solo show with a reception during Anchorages monthly arts social event,  First Friday Art Walk.
Venues for group shows are also offered in gallery’s two room space which features sculpture and traditional Alaska Native work in one room and, in the other, an eclectic mix of mediums and artists.

The gallery helps each artist develop a portfolio, which include photographs of their work and a biography. This provides the artist with the basic tools to obtain shows in other galleries as well as compete in juried exhibitions.

The gallery is more than an artistic catalyst; it is a community nexus as well, providing, not only linkages to housing, employment, medical, legal services but also socialization, and opportunities for creativity.

Two Spirits is dedicated to reducing  the stigma associated with mental illness, addiction and homelessness and supporting artists in their recovery.

We are pleased to announce that our "Two Spirits Gallery" video received a CINE Golden Eagle Award.  The CINE Golden Eagle awards, distinguishing excellence in professional and amateur works, are recognized internationally as symbols of the highest production standards in filmmaking and videography.  Through profiles of selected Alaska Native and Anchorage artists, Two Spirits Gallery shows how art can be a pathway to recovery from mental illness, homelessness, and substance abuse. The video also introduces managers behind the scenes, and shows how access to supplies, mentors, a workspace, and a gallery, can build self-confidence and a career.
